National Maritime Dialogue 2022

Brunei Gas Carriers (BGC), in partnership with the Maritime and Port Authority of Brunei Darussalam (MPABD), Institute of Brunei Technical Education (IBTE), and the Manpower Planning and Employment Council (MPEC) jointly organised the country’s first National Maritime Dialogue (NMD) at the Al-Fath Hall, MPABD.

In attendance as the Guest of Honour, was Yang Berhormat Pengiran Dato Seri Setia Shamhary bin Pengiran Dato Paduka Haji Mustapha, the Minister of Transport and Infocommunications.

Following the theme of this year’s Day of the Seafarer (DOTS), “Your Voyage–Then and Now, Share Your Journey”, the National Maritime Dialogue aimed to provide an avenue for the entire maritime industry to pause, focus, learn, and reflect on the key learnings–critical to the nation’s readiness to support the growth of the maritime industry.

BGC Managing Director, Captain Abdul Mateen, in his welcoming remarks highlighted the critical role that the maritime industry plays in providing employment to aspiring cadets and mariners to explore the diverse employment opportunities available within the local maritime industry. Through the dialogue, he hopes that all the industry players, and relevant stakeholders can build on this relationship to cultivate the right maritime ecosystem which looks into all aspects of maritime development, including elevating competency standards following internationally recognised accreditations.

With the success of the first National Maritime Dialogue, BGC as an integral part of the local maritime industry, will continue to play its part in supporting the national agenda to help fuel the maritime pipeline with skilled talent, to benefit the entire maritime industry and economy.

BGC Receives Visit from MTIC Communications Community

Brunei Gas Carriers (BGC) received a working visit from the Ministry of Transport and Infocommunications (MTIC) and several departments, as well as Statutory Bodies, under the ministry as part of a knowledge sharing session with the BGC Communications and External Relations (CER) team.

During the sharing session, BGC’s CER team presented an overview of the department’s roles, processes, strategies, and governance; setting good practices for how organisations can approach the role of communications in today’s challenging digital landscape.

The working visit concluded with a guided tour of BGC and the state-of-the-art Bridge Simulator Training Centre (BSTC).

BGC would like to express its appreciation to the Communications community from MTIC for allowing the opportunity to share the knowledge and expertise in the area of Communications. We look forward to sustaining this working relationship with all parties involved.

BGC Donates 50 Trees in Support of Climate Change Agenda

On 13th August 2022, Brunei Gas Carriers (BGC) took part in the Tree Planting Ceremony, held in conjunction with the launch of the Atmosphiere Mobile Application (Tree Planting Application), organised by Shell LiveWIRE Brunei and Sphiere Sdn Bhd. BGC’s Managing Director, Captain Abdul Mateen Abdurrahman Liew, who took part in the tree planting activity expressed that the launch of the Atmosphiere mobile application is a real game-changer for the country, as it grants users of the mobile app the convenience to subscribe to a tree planting service and directly contribute to the national target set by the Brunei Climate Change Secretariat (BCCS) to plant 500,000 trees by 2035. Another feature that users can benefit from is the ability to track their carbon emissions, enabling them to make better decisions and contribute towards a greener future for the country. The launch of the Atmosphiere mobile app certainly complements BGC’s Clean Rivers, Clean Seas campaign, as we can leverage on the extensive features available on the app to collaborate on future campaigns and contribute towards the BNCCP Strategy 2’s national objective. BGC through the tree planting ceremony, donated a total of 50 trees in support of this important cause. Let’s all work together and start planting a tree today because #SustainingACleanerAndGreenerFuture is a collective responsibility. #CleanRiversCleanSeas #BruneiShipping #BruneiMaritime
