BGC Plant A Tree 2023

Brunei Gas Carriers (BGC) organised its first ‘Plant A Tree’ Activity 2023 at Pentagon Park, Jalan Menteri Besar, Berakas on Thursday, 21st September 2023. The activity was organised in conjunction with BGC’s 25th Anniversary and as part of BGC’s social investment initiative, ‘Clean Rivers, Clean Seas’.

Present at the event was Yang Mulia Awg Haji Salihin Haji Aspar, Deputy Permanent Secretary (Transport) at the Ministry of Transport and Infocommunications (MTIC). Also in attendance were representatives from the Department of Environment, Parks and Recreation (JASTRe), Mitsubishi Corporation, Brunei Climate Change Secretariat and BGC employees.

The event saw approximately 60 volunteers from government agencies, NGOs, and other business partners sharing the same goal to preserve and expand forest cover and reduce carbon emissions, maintaining biodiversity and promoting sustainable development.

BGC planted 25 trees at Pentagon Park, Jalan Menteri Besar, Berakas while the remaining of the 75 trees will be planted at the Berakas Forest Reserve at a later date.

Coastal Clean-Up Continues for 9th Instalment

Brunei Gas Carriers (BGC) organised its ninth annual International Coastal Clean-Up at Jerudong Beach on Saturday, 16th September 2023. The event, which was also its fourth year collaborating with the Maritime and Port Authority of Brunei Darussalam (MPABD) saw approximately 200 volunteers, and a total 1.4 tonnes of garbage collected across 2km of shoreline.

The activity was part of BGC’s social investment initiative, ‘Clean Rivers, Clean Seas’, to create awareness and promote environmental conservation in conjunction with World Maritime Day 2023 which falls on 28th September 2023.

Present at the event was Yang Mulia Awg Haji Salihin Haji Aspar, Deputy Permanent Secretary (Transport), Ministry of Transport and Infocommunications (MTIC). Also in attendance were event partners Makan Ceria Sdn Bhd and Poni Divers Brunei, Mitsubishi Corporation, BGC employees and families, representatives from the Jerudong community, government agencies, institutions, and schools.

ICS300 Course for Emergency Preparedness

Brunei Gas Carriers (BGC) recently held a three-day Incident Command Training course (ICS 300) in collaboration with Oil Spill Response Ltd. Singapore (OSRL) at its headquarters in Jerudong. Over 20 participants comprising employees from BGC and the Maritime and Port Authority of Brunei Darussalam (MPABD) participated in the course.

The course focused on familiarization of the ICS process, learning the importance of theoretical and practical aspects of handling emergency responses and in particular oil spill response.

As part of the 3-day training, a tabletop exercise was carried out to test participants’ emergency preparedness and planning.

BGC Launches Children’s Book at Pesta Buku Brunei

Brunei Gas Carriers (BGC) successfully launched it’s first and special 25th Anniversary commemorative children’s book entitled, ‘My Hero on the Open Sea’.

The book launch was held during the Pesta Buku Brunei organised by Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka Brunei (DBPB), held recently at ICC, Berakas which was graced by the Minister of Culture, Youth, and Sports, Yang Berhormat Awang Hj Nazmi bin Hj Mohamad.

‘My Hero on the Open Sea’ is written and illustrated by two local Bruneians to commemorate the company’s 25th anniversary of establishment and spark interest in seafaring careers. The book aims to highlight the life of seafarers, as they journey across continents to deliver precious cargoes for Brunei Darussalam while depicting glimpses of the precarious nature of the ocean. At the same time, the book also teaches the importance of safety and the role that seafarers play in preserving the maritime environment to safeguard our future.

The book will be available to the public soon. So, keep an eye out for the announcement!

BGC Management Visit

BGC’s A-Class vessel, Amali, recently received a visit from the BSP, Brunei LNG and BGC Management Team, the first official visit post-COVID-19.

During the ship visit, the team engaged with the Senior Ship Management team to discuss operations and safety. The visit also offered a chance to visit various sections of the ship, including the Bridge, Engine Room, Galley and Cargo Control Room.

First LNG Cargo Delivery to Soma LNG Terminal, Japan

BGC and Brunei LNG delegates led by BGC Fleet Manager, Pg Nor Hazman Pg Hj Abd Hamid; and Brunei LNG Acting General Manager, Commercial, Nadia Amanda Abdullah Teo, celebrated a significant milestone for both companies on 14 July 2023, with the first LNG cargo delivery by BGC A-Class vessel, ARKAT, for Japan Petroleum Exploration Company Limited (JAPEX) to Soma LNG Terminal in Fukushima Prefecture, Japan.

The inaugural delivery commemorates an important milestone, continuing the legacy of just over half a century of LNG shipping between Brunei Darussalam and Japan.

With the celebration of BGC’s Silver Jubilee this year and through its 25 year-long voyage, the company is proud to play an important continuous role for both countries.

BGC would like to extend our heartfelt appreciation to JAPEX; Soma LNG Terminal, Japan; Mitsubishi Corporation; and our charterer, Brunei LNG, for the longstanding partnership and collaboration, and we look forward to cultivating even stronger ties with Japan for decades to come.

BGC Joins Belait Community for His Majesty’s 77th Birthday Celebration

Pameran Sambutan Bulan Bahasa

Brunei Gas Carriers (BGC) participated in the Pameran Sambutan Bulan Bahasa at the Mall, Gadong, on 5th July 2023. The event was held in conjunction with the Malay Language Month Celebration and organized by the Language and Literature Bureau (DBP). The celebration, themed ‘Memperkasakan Bahasa Melayu, or ‘Empowering the Malay Language’, aimed to elevate the Malay language as the official language of the country and the nation’s identity.

Present as the Guest of Honor was Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Nazmi bin Haji Mohamad, Ministry of Culture, Youth, and Sports (MCYS).

The team was led by BGC Managing Director, Captain Abdul Mateen Abdurrahman Liew, and Fleet Manager, Pengiran Nor Hazman bin Pg Haji Abdul Hamid.

BGC Celebrates Silver Jubilee

Brunei Gas Carriers (BGC) celebrated its 25th Anniversary at the Indera Samudra Grand Hall, The Empire Brunei, on Tuesday, July 4, 2023. The event was held to commemorate the establishment of the company on March 9, 1998, and to celebrate all the important historical milestones and achievements.

Present as joint guests of honor were Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Dr Awang Haji Mohd Amin Liew bin Abdullah, Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Finance and Economy II, and Yang Berhormat Pengiran Dato Seri Setia Shamhary bin Pengiran Dato Paduka Haji Mustapha, Minister of Transport and Infocommunications.

The event proceeded with the fourth installment of the Maritime Talent Pipeline Achievements Ceremony (MTPAC), starting with the promotion to rank of BGC ship officers and followed by the signing of contracts for BGC scholars. The event also witnessed the signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between BGC and its national and international counterparts and the launch of BGC’s 25th Anniversary Coffee Table Book, capturing BGC’s 25-year journey in shipping and maritime, which began with its establishment in 1998. BGC also unveiled a timeline tunnel showcasing its 25-year history, followed by a guided tour of a commemorative gallery. The gallery was envisioned as a museum-like exhibition in the form of a 20-foot BGC A-Class vessel replica.
