In conjunction with the World Maritime Day which falls on 28 September 2023, BGC would like to extend our utmost appreciation for the hard work and unwavering commitment by seafarers, and individuals who contribute to the thriving maritime industry.

We are honored to join the global maritime community in commemorating the milestone of MARPOL at 50. The theme “MARPOL at 50 – Our Commitment Goes On” serves as a reflection of the continuous dedication and perseverance displayed by everyone involved in the maritime industry.

Tonight, on the occasion of the 2023 World Maritime Day celebration, Brunei Gas Carriers’ head office in Jerudong will be lit up in blue and green to promote this year’s theme and to showcase our solidarity with the maritime community toraise awareness of the vital contribution of shipping to the world.

Together, let us recommit ourselves to the ongoing journey towards a sustainable maritime future.

Brunei Gas Carriers (BGC) celebrated the refinancing of its esteemed fleet vessels, Arkat and Amali, on Tuesday, 26th September 2023 at the BGC Office, in Jerudong. The event was to commemorate a significant milestone in BGC’s history as it marks the first occasion that a local bank, Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam (BIBD), is the sole financier of approximately USD 149M for both vessels.

BGC Managing Director, Captain Abdul Mateen Abdurrahman Liew in his welcoming remarks stated, “The refinancing of the Arkat and Amali vessels makes a significant contribution to the local economy. Not only does this agreement benefit the nation as a whole, but it also aligns with Brunei’s Vision 2035, which aims to establish a dynamic and sustainable economy for the country. This financing is in line with the aspirations set forth in Brunei’s Vision 2035.”

Present at the event was Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Dr Awang Haji Mohd Amin Liew Abdullah, Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Finance and Economy II. Also in attendance were Yang Mulia Awang Junaidi bin Haji Masri, Managing Director and CEO of Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam and representatives from Mitsubishi Corporation, Brunei Shell Petroleum, Brunei LNG and other stakeholders.

BGC Plant A Tree 2023

Brunei Gas Carriers (BGC) organised its first ‘Plant A Tree’ Activity 2023 at Pentagon Park, Jalan Menteri Besar, Berakas on Thursday, 21st September 2023. The activity was organised in conjunction with BGC’s 25th Anniversary and as part of BGC’s social investment initiative, ‘Clean Rivers, Clean Seas’.

Present at the event was Yang Mulia Awg Haji Salihin Haji Aspar, Deputy Permanent Secretary (Transport) at the Ministry of Transport and Infocommunications (MTIC). Also in attendance were representatives from the Department of Environment, Parks and Recreation (JASTRe), Mitsubishi Corporation, Brunei Climate Change Secretariat and BGC employees.

The event saw approximately 60 volunteers from government agencies, NGOs, and other business partners sharing the same goal to preserve and expand forest cover and reduce carbon emissions, maintaining biodiversity and promoting sustainable development.

BGC planted 25 trees at Pentagon Park, Jalan Menteri Besar, Berakas while the remaining of the 75 trees will be planted at the Berakas Forest Reserve at a later date.

Coastal Clean-Up Continues for 9th Instalment

Brunei Gas Carriers (BGC) organised its ninth annual International Coastal Clean-Up at Jerudong Beach on Saturday, 16th September 2023. The event, which was also its fourth year collaborating with the Maritime and Port Authority of Brunei Darussalam (MPABD) saw approximately 200 volunteers, and a total 1.4 tonnes of garbage collected across 2km of shoreline.

The activity was part of BGC’s social investment initiative, ‘Clean Rivers, Clean Seas’, to create awareness and promote environmental conservation in conjunction with World Maritime Day 2023 which falls on 28th September 2023.

Present at the event was Yang Mulia Awg Haji Salihin Haji Aspar, Deputy Permanent Secretary (Transport), Ministry of Transport and Infocommunications (MTIC). Also in attendance were event partners Makan Ceria Sdn Bhd and Poni Divers Brunei, Mitsubishi Corporation, BGC employees and families, representatives from the Jerudong community, government agencies, institutions, and schools.
