On the occasion of the Day of the Seafarer, let us pay a tribute to our seafarers, who have played a vital role in safeguarding the marine environment while ensuring the sustainability of our precious oceans for future generations.

Over the past 50 years, MARPOL, the primary international treaty governing the prevention of pollution of the marine environment by ships, has played a critical role in reducing marine pollution. In commemorating this year’s theme “MARPOL at 50: Our Commitment Goes On,”, it is important to recognise that marine pollution remains a serious threat to marine species and their environment.

Let us strengthen our efforts by working together to protect the marine environment and ensure the sustainable use of our oceans’ resources.

BGC would like to extend our appreciation to all seafarers for their unwavering support – the true heroes of the maritime industry.

Brunei Gas Carriers Sendirian Berhad (BGC) in support of World Blood Donor Day 2023, collaborated with @bloodbank_ripas and @mcdonaldsbrunei for its annual blood donation drive, held on 10th June 2023 at McDonald’s Jerudong & 24th June 2023 at McDonald’s Lambak branch.

The blood donation drive saw great participation from both registered and walk-in donors, with all slots successfully booked via social media. Altogether, BGC received 211 successful donors, contributing to 211 pints of blood in total. The numbers indicate a promising sign in the community’s care and support for this notable cause, as it is a significant increase compared to previous BGC blood donation drives.

BGC believes that this campaign will aid the development of our community spirit and create awareness on the need for safe blood transfusion and the importance of blood donation. Lastly, BGC would like to thank all the donors for their selfless donations, Blood Bank RIPAS, and McDonald’s Brunei for the successful partnership in organising this event.

The 25 Seeds of Gratitude (SOG) program recently continued with the Children’s Books Donation Drive to Sekolah Rendah Labi in the Belait District.

Prior to this, BGC has completed a series of SOG events, including a Sungkai Food Donation Drive-Thru for underprivileged families in Jerudong A and Jerudong B, Smarter Donation Drive for underprivileged families with autism in collaboration with Smarter Brunei, Sungkai Food Donation at the Al-Ameerah Al-Hajjah Maryam Mosque, and a visit to the Old Folks Home in Seria.

Since early this year, BGC has consolidated various donations and contributions to help those in need, especially the underprivileged community. The 25 SOG contributes to BGC’s mission of becoming a high-performing organisation with a shared sense of accountability to achieve a common goal and encourage more acts of support for those in need.

The program is slated to run until March 2024.

On Monday, 29 May 2023, BGC accomplished another significant milestone this year by achieving 1,000,000 man-hours without a Lost Time Injury (LTI) within the workforce since 2018.

BGC is proud to have continued delivering projects safely and successfully within four years. This is a truly exceptional performance and reflects our dedication to BGC’s core values; Safety, Honesty, Integrity and Professionalism (SHIP).

The event began with an opening remark from Acting QHSSE Manager, Hj Mohammad Helmi Hj Mahari and followed by BGC Managing Director, Captain Abdul Mateen Abdurrahman Liew.

The event ended with a prize presentation ceremony for the Positive Intervention winners of 2022 and Q1 2023.

With safety being our top priority, we are committed to maintain a positive safety culture by having everyone take safety seriously, remaining vigilant and avoiding any compromises to ensure that safety of everyone is upheld collectively.

Following the launch of BGC ICV Ignite on 7th March 2023, BGC received 23 responses from interested companies to participate in the BGC ICV Ignite Programme.

As the first activity under the programme, BGC conducted a 3-day BAH! & GO! Capability Training Workshop programme on 29th-30th May & 1st June at iCentre Auditorium, Anggerek Desa.

17 companies attended and successfully completed the training workshop, delivered by in-house facilitators/trainers and subject matter experts.

Modules covered consisted of the Brunei Maritime Landscape, Insights on Ship Chandling, Business Ethics and Compliance, Fundamentals in Safety and Quality Management in Shipping & Crafting a Successful Tender.

During the workshop, everyone was given the opportunity to discuss and analyse the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats (SWOT) of Ship Chandling in Brunei.

With the first workshop successfully completed, BGC hopes that all parties were able to gain a better understanding of Ship Chandling, whilst having the opportunity to share and exchange experiences, views, and best practices, in order to recognise future business opportunities following the nation’s aspiration to develop the Maritime Industry in Brunei.
