HAPPY NEW YEAR 2023

2022 has been a breath of fresh air for everyone – with borders re-opening and non-essential travel resuming, a sense of normalcy has finally returned for the majority. Although that sense of normalcy has returned for most, let us not forget that it still remains a challenge for the maritime industry as safety measures for COVID-19 remain enforced for now, and we are grateful to our BGC family out at sea for their continued commitment in ensuring our operations continue, uninterrupted.

Coming out of the pandemic, I’m sure each and every one of us has learned and changed for the better as well as gained a newfound appreciation for all the blessings in life.

As we bid farewell to 2022, we would like to take this opportunity to wish our colleagues onshore and out at sea, families and friends, a happy and safe 2023 ahead. May the new year bring joy, happiness and prosperity to all.

BGC Family Day 2022

Following a three-year hiatus, Brunei Gas Carriers (BGC) resumed its Family Day celebrations last weekend, at the Jerudong Park Playground, with staff and family members.

Approximately a thousand people attended the celebration, which began in the early afternoon up till late evening. The Family Day event was filled with a variety of activities including carnival games, sports competitions, face painting, bouncers, and much more for people of all ages.

As part of BGC’s social investment initiative, BGC also invited several NGOs including YASKA, ABLE, and SMARTER to spend their day at the playground alongside their family members. It was very heartwarming to see the smiles on the children’s faces, we surely hope that they had a pleasant time at the playground.

In support of ICV development, we also invited sixteen food vendors to operate the Family Day Food Street throughout the event. It’s safe to say that none of the attendees left the playground hungry due to the abundance of food available, from savory dishes to delicious desserts. We would like to once again thank all the vendors for supporting the Family Day event as festival friends.

With emphasis on the word ‘family’, we are thankful for the improving situation in the country, as it allowed us to spend quality time with our loved ones, to reconnect and strengthen family bonds especially after going through such a challenging year.

In the words of our Managing Director, Captain Abdul Mateen, “despite all of our day-to-day commitments and busy schedules, please remember to do things in moderation and make time for our families, for they are the most precious thing in our lives.” We are thankful to all staff for making this year’s event a success, and we can’t wait to return once again next year!

Brunei Energy Hub Dermaga DiRaja – A Gift To The Nation

A gift to the nation, the Brunei Energy Hub Dermaga Diraja came from the successful collaboration between the Government of His Majesty, and the BSJV Companies @bsp_company @bruneilng @bruneishellmarketing and Brunei Gas Carriers, to create an interactive educational centre for visitors to learn about Brunei’s oil and gas industry.

Since 2019, the BSJV companies and BGC have been working closely with the Government of His Majesty which include relevant parties from the Ministry of Finance and Economy, Ministry of Development and Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports to conceive BEH. The BEH launching symbolises the successful collaboration between all parties, making a vision to reality.

Brunei’s rich oil and gas history now has a home that we can proudly call the BEH. A lot of memories are carved into the museum, starting from Brunei’s humble beginnings before the discovery of oil was made in 1929. BGC, as one of the key players of the hydrocarbon value chain, is proud to be able to showcase its rich maritime history in BEH, which began with our first voyage of LNG delivery to Japan in 1972 with S.S. Gadinia, through our predecessors, Shell Tankers (UK) Ltd. and Brunei Shell Tankers (BST).

As the BEH is now officially open, visitors will have the opportunity to explore three interactive galleries, which carriers its own theme, from exploring what life in Brunei was like before the discovery of oil, to learning about our nation’s aspirations and the industry today in relation to its future strategy for affordable and sustainable energy.

BGC would like to thank the BSJV companies, and the Government of His Majesty for the opportunity to collaborate on such an important milestone for Brunei. Echoing the BEH’s slogan, BGC, together with the BSJV companies, will continue to #PowerOurNationsFuture moving in step with the global drive for a greener future.

World Mental Health Day

The past year has not been easy for many of us, with many still reeling from the after-effects of COVID-19.

Following this year’s theme, “Make mental health and wellbeing for all a global priority”, we are proud to share that BGC continues to make positive strides in upholding mental health and wellbeing in the workplace by actively organising its “Work Wellness Time-Out”. Under this initiative, every staff member gets the chance to speak about the various ways of coping with mental health challenges, by learning to be more mindful of their own mental well-being, and adopting better self-care practices.

While different people may cope differently with stress, anxiety, or depression, we must all play our part to pay closer attention to those around us, and if you feel that someone you know is going through a hard time, then please reach out and intervene.

In support of World Mental Health Day, we would like everyone to show your solidarity by wearing green. We urge everyone to remain vigilant of those around you and that #ItsOkayToAskForHelp

Happy World Mental Health Day.

Selamat Menyambut Maulidur Rasul 1444H

In honour of celebrating the birth of our beloved Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), may Allah (SWT) shower all of us with his blessings and love on this auspicious day.

Let us remember to recite the Salawat for our Prophet’s welfare, blessing, and salvation. Ibn Asakri has transmitted from al-Hasan bin Ali that Muhammad (SAW) said in his Hadith: “Invoke more Salawat upon me, for your invocations is conducive to your sins being forgiven. And pray for me a high status and intercession, for surely my intercession will plead in your favour before Allah (SWT).”

Salam Maulidur Rasul to all our Muslim brothers and sisters around the world.

BGC Celebrates Employees at Bollywood-Theme Night

After a two-year hiatus, Brunei Gas Carriers (BGC) resumed its Annual Dinner celebrations with a spectacular Bollywood-themed night at the Indera Samudra Hall, The Empire Brunei.

Following this year’s theme, the hall was beautifully decorated with an array of colors–capturing the ambience of a Bollywood setting, filled with eclectic rangoli designs, and famous movie posters. The best part of the event, of course, were our people, who came wearing dazzling Bollywood attire, worthy of famous Bollywood stars.

The night began with a showstopping performance by the Lively Dancers, who played through numerous Bollywood hits to enliven the mood and prime everybody for a night full of splendour and entertainment.

BGC’s Managing Director, Captain Abdul Mateen, in his welcoming remarks expressed his sincere appreciation to the entire BGC family for gracing the ceremony, something that he felt was long-overdue due to the COVID-19 pandemic. He also took the opportunity to celebrate notable BGC milestones and to commend everyone for their hard work and dedication, especially for powering through the year to overcome various setbacks and challenges.

The biggest highlight of the event was our Long-Service Awards ceremony, which saw a total of 43 recipients awarded for reaching their respective milestones of 20, 15, and 10 years of service. BGC is overjoyed to award so many deserving employees for their valuable contributions, unconditional support, and loyalty to the company, for they are responsible for shaping BGC into what it is today.

It would not be a BGC Annual Dinner without spectacular performances lined up by the BGC employees. Three teams from various departments took to the stage to deliver a variety of skits and group performances to dazzle the audience.

In closing, we wish to echo the words of our MD, “Coming together is a beginning; keeping together is progress; working together is success. Let’s continue to work together and strive for greater excellence in all that we do.”

A total of twenty stakeholders comprising of educational institutions, companies, and government agencies took part in the beach cleanup at the Jerudong Beach, on Saturday, 17th September 2022.

Captain Abdul Mateen bin Abdurrahman Liew, BGC’s Managing Director, expressed in his welcoming remarks his appreciation to all stakeholders for their valiant contributions to support this environmental campaign, as it clearly demonstrates the care and solidarity within our Bruneian community. He also emphasised on the importance of raising greater awareness on the impact of human activity to waste pollution, which threaten both marine life and even human beings.

BGC is proud to be able to work with all the school children, as it is imperative that they gain the necessary exposure towards the severity of waste pollution at the beach. It is our hope that these children, as the future of our generation, will continue to work together in support of this cause, and to take this opportunity to spread greater awareness to their friends and families.

A total of 1.2 tonnes of rubbish were collected from Jerudong Beach. BGC would like to extend its appreciation to all the relevant parties for making this year’s beach cleanup campaign a huge success. We look forward to greater participation next year. Happy International Coastal Cleanup Day.
