National Maritime Dialogue 2022

Brunei Gas Carriers (BGC), in partnership with the Maritime and Port Authority of Brunei Darussalam (MPABD), Institute of Brunei Technical Education (IBTE), and the Manpower Planning and Employment Council (MPEC) jointly organised the country’s first National Maritime Dialogue (NMD) at the Al-Fath Hall, MPABD.

In attendance as the Guest of Honour, was Yang Berhormat Pengiran Dato Seri Setia Shamhary bin Pengiran Dato Paduka Haji Mustapha, the Minister of Transport and Infocommunications.

Following the theme of this year’s Day of the Seafarer (DOTS), “Your Voyage–Then and Now, Share Your Journey”, the National Maritime Dialogue aimed to provide an avenue for the entire maritime industry to pause, focus, learn, and reflect on the key learnings–critical to the nation’s readiness to support the growth of the maritime industry.

BGC Managing Director, Captain Abdul Mateen, in his welcoming remarks highlighted the critical role that the maritime industry plays in providing employment to aspiring cadets and mariners to explore the diverse employment opportunities available within the local maritime industry. Through the dialogue, he hopes that all the industry players, and relevant stakeholders can build on this relationship to cultivate the right maritime ecosystem which looks into all aspects of maritime development, including elevating competency standards following internationally recognised accreditations.

With the success of the first National Maritime Dialogue, BGC as an integral part of the local maritime industry, will continue to play its part in supporting the national agenda to help fuel the maritime pipeline with skilled talent, to benefit the entire maritime industry and economy.
