BGC Coastal Cleanup Resumes Post Pandemic

Brunei Gas Carriers (BGC) as part of its Clean Rivers, Clean Seas initiative, organised its eighth beach cleanup campaign this year, in support of the world’s largest single day volunteer effort to clean up the earth’s beaches, lakes, and rivers under the International Coastal Cleanup Day.

A total of twenty stakeholders comprising of educational institutions, companies, and government agencies took part in the beach cleanup at the Jerudong Beach, on Saturday, 17th September 2022.

Captain Abdul Mateen bin Abdurrahman Liew, BGC’s Managing Director, expressed in his welcoming remarks his appreciation to all stakeholders for their valiant contributions to support this environmental campaign, as it clearly demonstrates the care and solidarity within our Bruneian community. He also emphasised on the importance of raising greater awareness on the impact of human activity to waste pollution, which threaten both marine life and even human beings.

BGC is proud to be able to work with all the school children, as it is imperative that they gain the necessary exposure towards the severity of waste pollution at the beach. It is our hope that these children, as the future of our generation, will continue to work together in support of this cause, and to take this opportunity to spread greater awareness to their friends and families.

A total of 1.2 tonnes of rubbish were collected from Jerudong Beach. BGC would like to extend its appreciation to all the relevant parties for making this year’s beach cleanup campaign a huge success. We look forward to greater participation next year. Happy International Coastal Cleanup Day.
