Brunei Gas Carriers (BGC) has reached another important milestone, marked by the official signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between Brunei Gas Carriers and Malaysian Maritime Academy which is also better known as ALAM (Akademi Laut Malaysia). Present to sign on behalf of BGC was Pg Shamhary Pg Dato Hj Mustapha, Managing Director, and on behalf of ALAM, Encik Rafiq Khan Akbar Khan, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer.

Bleeding For A Cause – BGC Blood Donation Drive

Brunei Gas Carriers (BGC) in collaboration with RIPAS Blood Bank and McDonald’s Brunei successfully carried out its blood donation drive in two McDonald’s branches, Jerudong and Lambak Kanan.

In addressing the need to replenish the blood bank’s supply, BGC organised a 3-weeks campaign on social media to invite prospective donors to donate at the McDonald’s branches.

BGC during the campaign managed to secure 120 slots of bookings from the public and was able to acquire a number of walk-in donors during the donation drive. In total, BGC recorded 176 successful donors and 72 unsuccessful donors. This feat would not have been possible without the support from the public – we wish to express our sincerest gratitude for your contributions in supporting the blood donation drive this year. Thank you!

BGC would also like to thank its partners RIPAS Blood Bank and McDonald’s Brunei for their continued support in organising this important cause. We encourage the public to donate blood more regularly and help to replenish the shortage in blood supply in the country.

Give Blood. Save Lives.

BGC Takes Part In Brunei Mid-Year Conference & Exhibition

Brunei Gas Carriers (BGC) recognise that carbon management is essential to counter the climate change implications of the world’s energy use. As Brunei’s leading Deepwater shipping company we play our part through improvements of our operational energy efficiency and adoption of compliant technologies.

Last week, BGC in collaboration with Brunei Shell Petroleum (BSP) and Brunei LNG (BLNG) participated in the launch of the Energy-themed week held under the Brunei Mid-Year Conference & Exhibition (MYCE) 2021. Headlined “Energy Transition: Towards a Sustainable Future”, the week-long event aims to raise awareness on energy-efficiency, and share key initiatives to reduce Brunei’s carbon footprint and greenhouse gas emissions.

At the BGC booth, BGC’s 3rd Officers, Nurul Siti Shahrinah Binti Shahrolwardi and Ahmad Wafri Izzat Bin Zainal Arshad, shared important insights on the propulsion systems deployed on 4 of BGC’s vessels, called Dual Fuel Diesel Electric Engines (DFDE). All four vessels are powered by DFDE engines which run on LNG as the main fuel, thereby producing lower and cleaner emissions.

During the launching ceremony, BGC, led by the Managing Director, Pg Shamhary Pg Dato Haji Mustapha, welcomed the visit from the Guest of Honours, Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Dr. Awang Haji Mat Suny Bin Haji Mohd Hussein, Minister of Energy and Industry, and Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Ali Bin Apong, Minister Of Primary Resources And Tourism, and spoke about BGC’s commitment on lowering carbon and greenhouse gas emissions, and adopting modern solutions to support Brunei Darussalam’s aspirations of achieving carbon neutrality.

Loved Ones Come Onboard To Celebrate Hari Raya (Amali)

Brunei Gas Carriers (BGC) is delighted to announce that its final Hari Raya ship visit with families was completed on 2nd June 2021. Joining the delegation was a total of 10 spouses accompanied by representatives from the Human Resources and Communications team.

Upon arriving onboard BGC’s Amali vessel, the spouses were greeted by cheerful waves of excitement as the seafarers grinned from ear-to-ear, welcoming the arrival of their families. Captain Davor extended a warm welcome to all spouses before proceeding with a safety briefing and a short introduction of Amali.

At the start of the tour, the spouses were taken to the mess room where everyone gathered to enjoy the Hari Raya festivities. A sudden flurry of emotions immediately swept the room as the families embraced one another, with some couples turning to make video calls with their respective children back onshore. It was truly a memorable moment for the families, as for the first time, the spouses could witness the life that their husbands led aboard the vessel whilst being fortunate to celebrate the festivities together this year.

Enjoy our short video highlights capturing the beautiful moments of our seafarers reuniting with their families. We wish to extend once again our utmost appreciation to all the family members for the unconditional support and cooperation in upholding safety throughout the visit. And we would once again like to thank Brunei LNG for the warm welcome and for accommodating our visit yesterday.

Loved Ones Come Onboard To Celebrate Hari Raya (Arkat)

As part of our efforts to continuously look after the well-being of our crew members, the company arranged a special visit with nine immediate family members onboard our vessels for the Hari Raya celebrations.

This feat would not have been possible without the unconditional support and cooperation from the respective family members in upholding safety. Seeing the families reunited onboard for the first time was heartwarming, as most of our crew had not been able to celebrate the past Hari Raya with their respective families due to operational requirements.

Arkat was the first of our vessels to receive visits from family members this year and carved a new piece of history for Brunei Gas Carriers. We will continue to share stories of our planned visits to the rest of our vessels in the coming weeks. Stay tuned on our social media for updates 🙂

Last but not least, we would like to thank Brunei LNG for the warm welcome and for accommodating our visit today.

Project Amali 1.0 – Lending A Helping Hand

In this year’s holy month of Ramadhan, Brunei Gas Carriers (BGC) set out to meet with residents from the Labi community in the Belait District, as part of the 8th installment of Project Amali. The visit to Mukim Labi which took place on Wednesday, 28th April 2021, was led by BGC’s Managing Director, Pg Shamhary Pg Dato Haji Mustapha, accompanied by groups of volunteers from the company.

Project Amali is one of BGC’s Social Investment initiatives which sought to address the social, economic and welfare aspects of local communities. Under the project, BGC has worked together with Jabatan Pembangunan Masyarakat (JAPEM) and the Penghulu of Mukim Labi to identify candidates that require assistance in the form of essential food items and school supplies.

There were five identified socioeconomically disadvantaged families residing in Mukim Labi by JAPEM and the Penghulu. BGC presented each family with various food and essential items such as rice, cooking oil, assorted canned foods, assorted toiletries, cleaning utensils and so forth.

During the handover, BGC representatives took the opportunity to speak with each of the family members and empathise with their situation— especially so during the current COVID-19 pandemic situation. BGC’s Managing Director, Pg Shamhary, remarked that he, on behalf of the Company and staff that made donations, is thankful that we could all contribute and lend a helping hand to these families of the Labi community especially during the month of Ramadhan. He hopes that with the food provisions and other essential items, the families can improve on their well-being and helps to lighten their burden.

BGC is proud and thankful to JAPEM and the Penghulu of Mukim Labi for collaborating with us to support the Labi community. All the volunteers have learned a valuable lesson concerning the difficulties faced by the families residing in the area and are happy to contribute towards such an important and gratifying cause. BGC looks to build on this year’s Project Amali by expanding its reach and connecting with more communities in Brunei Darussalam.
