Braving the sea in pandemic times
Long Service Award
On Saturday 11th December, BGC held a small reception to honour 38 of the company’s Long Service Award (LSA) Recipients achieving their milestones of 20, 15 and 10 years. The event took place both physically and virtually in order to adhere with the current SOPs in place.
This year, BGC also celebrated and bid farewell to its first retiree – Awang Hj Maidin bin Hj Sabtu who was BGC’s Ship Admin Officer for the past 15 years.
In his opening remarks, BGC Managing Director, Pg Shamhary Pg Dato Paduka Hj Mustapha thanked the LSA recipients for their unwavering service and dedication to the company all these years – “On behalf of BGC, I wish to express my heartfelt appreciation to each one of you for all your hard work, dedication, and sacrifice for the company, for you have been an invaluable asset to BGC. The company’s successes and achievements would not have been possible without your wisdom, support, resilience, and most importantly, your loyalty.”
Despite the current situation, it was important for the company to be able to continue honouring the LSA recipients. Pg Shamhary, in his speech, also mentioned, “BGC, together with its people, is constantly adapting to the demands of the shipping industry as demonstrated by our resilience in managing our shipping operations throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. Our feats have been nothing short of spectacular”.
“Alhamdulillah, we have continued to uphold our reputation as a safe and reliable operator during these difficult times and we should be proud of it, even though it may come with the price of long tours for our seafarers. This is certainly not an ideal situation, and as much as we may not like it and would prefer to avoid it as much as possible – this is where our professionalism is tested, and I believe we are all great professionals and can overcome it.”
Recipients were presented with an LSA gift as well as a special commissioned watercolour painting of BGC A-Class vessels, which were handed over by BGC’s Managing Director.
