BGC Inks Agreement with Singapore Maritime Academy (SMA)

In a follow up to BGC’s Maritime Talent Pipeline Achievements Ceremony held last week, the company once again demonstrated its commitment for the development of Bruneian seafarers through the inking of an agreement with the Singapore Maritime Academy (SMA) under the Singapore Polytechnic, on Thursday, 18th March 2021. Following the new normal, the signing of MOU was held virtually between BGC and SMA; and establishes BGC’s intent to promote and develop formal collaboration and cooperation between BGC and SMA in the fields of education, research and training programmes of mutual interest. The MOU also opens an avenue to explore potential business opportunities, increasing BGC technical know-how and ultimately boost BGC’s aspiration to become the main talent pipeline for the Maritime Industry in Brunei Darussalam. A Celebration of Achievements at BGC’s Maritime Talent Pipeline Achievements Ceremony 2021

On 12th March 2021, BGC held the 2nd instalment of their Maritime Talent Pipeline Achievements Ceremony (MTPAC) to celebrate three important milestones, namely the achievement of Ship Management Transition, the promotion to rank of BGC Ship Officers, and the signing of contracts for BGC Scholars.

BGC was honoured to have YB Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Finance and Economy II, and YB Minister of Transport and Infocommunications as Chairman of the MPABD Board, as joint special guests at the occasion.

The MTPAC is a testament to BGC’s commitment in the development of Bruneian seafarers not only in the BGC workforce, but to support the growth of local talent in the Brunei maritime industry as a whole.

Brunei Celebrates National Day Under A New Normal

BGC Employees Go Back to the 80’s In Celebration of Long Service Recipients

On Saturday 12th December, BGC held a dinner to honour the company’s Long Service Award (LSA) Recipients achieving their milestones of 15 and 10 years.

Recipients were presented with special commissioned watercolour paintings of BGC A-Class vessels, which were handed over by Managing Director, Pg Shamhary Pg DP Hj Mustapha along with the BGC Leadership Team.

In his opening remarks, Pg Shamhary congratulated and thanked all Long Service employees and their families for their unwavering support and dedication to the company all these years.

BGC Collaborates with Jerudong Consultative Council For Cemetery Associated Project

BGC as part of its Social Investment (SI) initiative collaborated with the Jerudong Consultative Council (MPK) for a cemetery associated project at the Tanah Perkuburan Islam Kinapahan, Jerudong on Friday, 4 December 2020.

Under the project, BGC installed a brand-new rainwater harvesting tank for the main purpose of providing access to clean water for the community visiting the cemetery. Due to the location of the cemetery on top of a hill, a conventional water source was not available, and members of the community had to carry heavy bottles of water up to the top. The new installation will provide ease and improve the safety of visitors.

After the handover, a cleaning campaign was also held, supported by BGC volunteers and members of the Jerudong community.

Strengthening Relationships Through BGC Connects

BGC kicked-off its inaugural employee engagement platform, ‘BGC Connect’ on 26 November 2020, at Serambi Suluh, Tarindak D’Seni in the capital.

The event gathered both BGC onshore and offshore personnel in a day of learning and teambuilding activities.

BGC Connect, which stands for ‘Creating Organisational Networks, Nurturing Engagement, Collaboration and Teamwork’ aims to create an open platform to break barriers and strengthen relationships between all BGC staff.

BGC Inks Agreement with Institute of Brunei Technical Education (IBTE)

On 26 November 2020, BGC held a signing ceremony to officiate the signing of agreement between BGC and the Brunei Maritime Academy (BMA) under the Institute of Brunei Technical Education (IBTE). Under the agreement, BGC will provide experienced Marine Officers and Deck Ratings as Adjunct Lecturers to BMA as part of its commitment to strengthen the Bruneian workforce to fill both employment and key positions within the maritime industry in Brunei. The provision of Adjunct Lecturers will be on a rotational basis and is expected to begin in January 2021. In support of Brunei’s drive to become a SMART nation, BGC, as part of the company’s Social Investment Initiative, recently participated in the ‘Goals For Education’ Campaign organized by @dynamiktechnologies and @thatsprogresif. The campaign aims to raise money to purchase much needed ICT devices for underprivileged students’ online learning. BGC Workplace Wellness Time-Out

Last week BGC organized a Workplace Wellness Time-Out for employees in conjunction with World Mental Health Day.

The time-out provided an opportunity for BGC employees to spend the day increasing their level of understanding surrounding mental health in the workplace and how to get or provide support to those who may be experiencing mental health problems. The talk was delivered by Hjh Norajleen Hj Alimas, Counsellor and Motivational Speaker from Clarity Sdn Bhd.

An afternoon of activities was also organized for BGC employees and their families aimed at providing tools to cope with busy, modern-day life through mindfulness activities such as Tai Chi, Yoga, and Art Therapy but to name a few.

Both the Health Promotion Centre (HPC) and the Department of Community Development (JAPEM) were also present to provide helpful resources through their awareness booths.
