International Women’s Day
In conjunction with the International Women’s Day (IWD) 2022, Brunei Gas Carriers (BGC) recently held several engagements with its staff to speak about the importance of this year’s IWD theme, “Break the Bias”. Through efforts such as our Diversity and Inclusion (D&I) initiatives, we continue to advocate for a world free of bias, stereotypes, inequality and discrimination, where differences are valued and celebrated. Collectively, we believe in creating a workplace that is free of bias and offers a conducive working culture that is diverse, equitable, and inclusive.
We wish to invite everyone to show your support for the #BreakTheBias campaign by striking the IWD 2022 pose by crossing your arms to show solidarity and tagging #IWD2022 in your posts.

RAKAN 2022 Goes Virtual
Brunei Gas Carriers (BGC) recently held its third installation of the RAKAN event, inviting over a hundred esteemed business partners to participate in the first ever virtual RAKAN event via Hopin.
In line with the theme for RAKAN 2022, “Elevating Capabilities Towards a Sustainable Maritime (Industry) Ecosystem”, BGC expressed its unwavering commitment to build and nurture relationships with all stakeholders, and to continue to work together in identifying potential value and optimisation opportunities while still promoting In-Country Value (ICV) and supporting national aspirations.
RAKAN, which stands for “Raising Awareness, Knowledge and Networking” has enabled our business partners to engage directly with respective focal points to gather knowledge, and further understand BGC’s business requirements whilst also exploring potential business opportunities.
BGC is also proud to announce that ever since RAKAN was launched in 2016, we have witnessed a significant rise in the number of registered businesses, contributing towards the growth in local competencies and capabilities not only in our people but also our business partners.
In celebrating the success of RAKAN 2022, we would like to thank all attendees and participants for gracing our event, albeit virtually. We value your insightful feedbacks, views and discussions. Let us continue to support one another and play our part in elevating capabilities towards a sustainable marine (industry) ecosystem.

Long Service Award
On Saturday 11th December, BGC held a small reception to honour 38 of the company’s Long Service Award (LSA) Recipients achieving their milestones of 20, 15 and 10 years. The event took place both physically and virtually in order to adhere with the current SOPs in place.
This year, BGC also celebrated and bid farewell to its first retiree – Awang Hj Maidin bin Hj Sabtu who was BGC’s Ship Admin Officer for the past 15 years.
In his opening remarks, BGC Managing Director, Pg Shamhary Pg Dato Paduka Hj Mustapha thanked the LSA recipients for their unwavering service and dedication to the company all these years – “On behalf of BGC, I wish to express my heartfelt appreciation to each one of you for all your hard work, dedication, and sacrifice for the company, for you have been an invaluable asset to BGC. The company’s successes and achievements would not have been possible without your wisdom, support, resilience, and most importantly, your loyalty.”
Despite the current situation, it was important for the company to be able to continue honouring the LSA recipients. Pg Shamhary, in his speech, also mentioned, “BGC, together with its people, is constantly adapting to the demands of the shipping industry as demonstrated by our resilience in managing our shipping operations throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. Our feats have been nothing short of spectacular”.
“Alhamdulillah, we have continued to uphold our reputation as a safe and reliable operator during these difficult times and we should be proud of it, even though it may come with the price of long tours for our seafarers. This is certainly not an ideal situation, and as much as we may not like it and would prefer to avoid it as much as possible – this is where our professionalism is tested, and I believe we are all great professionals and can overcome it.”
Recipients were presented with an LSA gift as well as a special commissioned watercolour painting of BGC A-Class vessels, which were handed over by BGC’s Managing Director.
