A donation of $13,555.20 worth of medical items was presented to the Ministry of Health (MOH) to support Brunei’s efforts in curbing the spread of COVID-19 in Brunei Darussalam.

Present to receive the donation from BGC was the Minister of Health, Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Dr. Hj Md Isham bin Hj Jaafar, and handing over on behalf of BGC was Second Engineer, Hj Nor Mahadi Hj Hosaini.

The donation contributed by BGC staff was enough to supply a total of 86 boxes of respirators masks; 198 packs of shoe covers; 1026 face visors; 174 boxes of aprons; and 236 packs of head covers.

BGC would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who joined in solidarity to contribute towards this effort.

Doa Kesyukuran and Mass Prayers in conjunction with BGC’s 22nd Anniversary

After 22 years of establishment, BGC celebrated its anniversary with an annual mass Maghrib and Isyak prayer at the Masjid Al-Ameerah Al-Hajjah Maryam in Kampong Jerudong on March 11, 2020.

Leading the event was BGC’s Deputy Managing Director, Pg Shamhary bin Pg Dato Paduka Haji Mustapha, with members of BGC staff in attendance to join the celebration.

Also, in attendance were external stakeholders from various government sectors, grassroot leaders, representatives from Brunei Shell Joint Venture Companies (BSJV) and members of the Jerudong community.

The event began with a mass Maghrib prayer followed by a Doa Kesyukuran led by BGC’s Employee Relations Advisor, Asril Amin bin Ahmad. The event ended with a mass Isyak prayer.

This year, the celebration was toned down as at the time of the event, Brunei had just recorded its initial cases of COVID-19. As a responsible company, BGC put in place physical distancing and other measures to ensure the safety of all guests and congregants to the mosque.

Goodie bags made up of packed food and drinks were handed out to all those present as a thank you from the company.

A Sea of Bright Blue Marches in Pride for King and Country

National Day is one of Brunei’s most anticipated events that is held annually on February 23rd – the day Brunei gained its independence. It is no surprise that thousands of citizens and residents flocked into the capital to show their patriotism and loyalty to King and country.

Dressed in a sea of bright blue, this year’s uniform was made especially for the contingent incorporating maritime elements into the finished fabric design. The ladies wore bright mustard yellow scarves making the contingent stand-out among the crowd.

“Left, right, left, right”, were the commands you heard coming from the BGC contingent’s pacers. The team worked hard before the actual day to ensure our march was in unison – practicing almost everyday for a whole week – It was a good pay-off, as the contingent received several waves from His Majesty and numerous recognitions from those who watched.

Led by Managing Director, John Douglas Cook and Deputy Managing Director Pengiran Shamhary Pengiran Dato Paduka Hj Mustapha, a total of 60 employees participated in the march-past which was BGC’s 8th consecutive year in participation.

Happy 36th National Day to our beloved country, Brunei Darussalam! BGC was honoured to be a part of such a memorable event and we look forward to continuing a strong presence in the years to come.
