BGC Workplace Wellness Time-Out

Last week BGC organized a Workplace Wellness Time-Out for employees in conjunction with World Mental Health Day.

The time-out provided an opportunity for BGC employees to spend the day increasing their level of understanding surrounding mental health in the workplace and how to get or provide support to those who may be experiencing mental health problems. The talk was delivered by Hjh Norajleen Hj Alimas, Counsellor and Motivational Speaker from Clarity Sdn Bhd.

An afternoon of activities was also organized for BGC employees and their families aimed at providing tools to cope with busy, modern-day life through mindfulness activities such as Tai Chi, Yoga, and Art Therapy but to name a few.

Both the Health Promotion Centre (HPC) and the Department of Community Development (JAPEM) were also present to provide helpful resources through their awareness booths.

1.1 TONNES OF TRASH COLLECTED AT BEACH CLEAN-UP

A big THANK YOU to all volunteers for taking the time to participate in the recent International Coastal Cleanup event held at Jerudong Beach on Saturday, 19th September 2020.

Your participation that day made a difference, and hopefully will instil awareness among us all on the importance of disposing rubbish responsibly.

The collaborative event between BGC and the Maritime and Port Authority of Brunei Darussalam (MPABD) was held in conjunction with World Maritime Day and saw almost 200 participants from various organisations and schools gathering on the beach collecting a whopping 1.1 tonnes of trash.

Protection of the environment is everyone’s responsibility so, let’s work together to keep our beaches clean for all of us and our future generations to enjoy.

BGC Celebrates Triple Achievements

On 31 August 2020, BGC celebrated three important milestones during a Maritime Talent Pipeline Achievements Ceremony held at The Empire Brunei.

The ceremony was organized to celebrate the promotion to rank of senior and junior BGC Ship Officers, the signing of contracts for BGC’s new cadets, and the signing of a memorandum of understanding with the Brunei Maritime Academy (BMA) under the Institute of Brunei Technical Education (IBTE).

These significant milestones represent BGC’s commitment to strengthening the Bruneian workforce to fill both employment and key positions within the company, as well as help cultivate the sustainable development of Brunei’s Maritime Industry.

BGC and Jerudong Village Consultative Council Collaborate for Korban Drive-Thru

espite the restrictions that remain in force during this COVID-19 pandemic, BGC pressed on to organize its annual Korban event as part of its Social Investment initiative in collaboration with the Jerudong Community. 

Efforts to adhere to social distancing during the COVID-19 phase, it was a first for BGC and Jerudong Village Consultative Council as part of the company’s annual Social Investment initiatives to organise a Korban Drive-Thru to distribute sacrificial meat to the Jerudong Community. 

To adhere to social distancing, the initiative was held as a Drive-Thru event at Sekolah Menengah Sayyidina Husain, Jerudong on 2nd August 2020.  

A total of 2 buffaloes and 1 cow were sacrificed and distributed to 40 underprivileged families residing in Kampong Jerudong. 

In attendance to distribute the meat were BGC’s Deputy Managing Director, Pengiran Shamhary Pengiran Dato Paduka Haji Mustapha, Contracts & Procurement Manager, Pengiran Dianawaty Pengiran Hj Matzin and People Manager, Md Khairul Amilin Maidin. 

Representing Kampong Jerudong ‘A’ was Pehin Orang Kaya Lela Pahlawan Mejar Jeneral (B) Dato Paduka Seri Hj Mohd Jaafar Hj Abd Aziz and Village Head, Awg Hj Kharul Hj Lakat. 

Flag Raising in Jerudong Commemorate His Majesty’s 74th Birthday

A flag Raising ceremony was held on 9th July 2020 at the Sengkurong Community Hall to commemorate the nation’s celebration of His Majesty’s 74th Birthday.

Witnessing the flag raising proceedings from BGC were: Deputy Managing Director, Pg. Shamhary Pg. Dato Paduka Haji Mustapha and QHSSE Manager, Captain Mohd Shahbrin Ibrahim.

Officiating the ceremony was Yang Berhormat Hj Mohimin Hj Johari to handover the official Flag to Jerudong Village Head, Awg Hj Kharul Hj Lakat.

Community Bleeds For a Cause in support of World Blood Donor Day

172 successful volunteers bled for a cause during BGC’s Blood Donation drive held on 20th and 27th June 2020 at the McDonalds Drive-Thru Jerudong and Lambak branches respectively.  

The 8th Annual Blood Donation drive which was organized in collaboration with the Blood Bank RIPAS and McDonalds Brunei was held in conjunction with World Blood Donor Day and as part of BGC’s Social Investment initiatives. 

With the overwhelming response from the public, it was hoped that the initiative would help boost the nation’s blood bank supply during the COVID-19 pandemic. 

As a thank you, all successful donors received a free meal voucher courtesy of BGC. 

From Our Shipping Front Liners to Yours: BGC Staff Donate to MOH

Dire times due to COVID-19 proved challenging not only for Brunei but the world at large. Our BGC front liners are no exception as they continue to ensure the nation continues to safely deliver LNG to Brunei’s international customers under these challenging conditions.

As we adjust to a new norm, BGC has also had to adjust many ways of working especially when it came to how we carry out events. This year under the umbrella of our annual Project Amali and as part of BGC’s Social Investment (SI) initiatives, BGC staff came together to raise money for the COVID-19 cause. A donation of $13,555.20 worth of medical items was presented to the Ministry of Health (MOH) to support Brunei’s efforts in curbing the spread of COVID-19 in Brunei Darussalam.

Present to receive the donation from BGC was the Minister of Health, Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Dr. Hj Md Isham bin Hj Jaafar, and handing over on behalf of BGC was Second Engineer, Hj Nor Mahadi Hj Hosaini.

The donation contributed by BGC staff was enough to supply a total of 86 boxes of respirators masks; 198 packs of shoe covers; 1026 face visors; 174 boxes of aprons; and 236 packs of head covers.

BGC would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who joined in solidarity to contribute towards this effort.

BGC Reach Out to Help MOH in Fight Against COVID-19

In light of the current developments of COVID-19 in the country, BGC stepped up to play their role in assisting to alleviate some of the burdens the Ministry of Health may be facing.

A donation of much needed equipment was handed over to the Ministry for deployment to the Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hjh Saleha Hospital (RIPAS). Handing over the equipment on behalf of BGC was Deputy Managing Director, Pg Shamhary Pg Dato Paduka Hj Mustapha.

BGC would like to take this opportunity to thank the Ministry of Health, all healthcare workers, administrative staff and volunteers who are working tirelessly to combat the COVID-19 pandemic and keeping us all safe. We wish them all strength and success during this challenging time.

Doa Kesyukuran and Mass Prayers in conjunction with BGC’s 22nd Anniversary

After 22 years of establishment, BGC celebrated its anniversary with an annual mass Maghrib and Isyak prayer at the Masjid Al-Ameerah Al-Hajjah Maryam in Kampong Jerudong on March 11, 2020.

Leading the event was BGC’s Deputy Managing Director, Pg Shamhary bin Pg Dato Paduka Haji Mustapha, with members of BGC staff in attendance to join the celebration.

Also, in attendance were external stakeholders from various government sectors, grassroot leaders, representatives from Brunei Shell Joint Venture Companies (BSJV) and members of the Jerudong community.

The event began with a mass Maghrib prayer followed by a Doa Kesyukuran led by BGC’s Employee Relations Advisor, Asril Amin bin Ahmad. The event ended with a mass Isyak prayer.

This year, the celebration was toned down as at the time of the event, Brunei had just recorded its initial cases of COVID-19. As a responsible company, BGC put in place physical distancing and other measures to ensure the safety of all guests and congregants to the mosque.

Goodie bags made up of packed food and drinks were handed out to all those present as a thank you from the company.

Fire Drill and First Aid Exercise with Fire and Rescue Department

Today, on 6th March 2020 BGC collaborated with the Brunei Fire and Rescue Department to conduct an emergency fire and first aid drill. BGC regularly conducts these kind of drills as a refresher and to ensure all staff, first aiders and fire wardens are well versed on their roles efficiently in the event of emergencies.
