BGC Hosts Iftar with Orphans and YASKA

Brunei Gas Carriers (BGC) in collaboration with the Acting Village Heads of Kampong Jerudong A and Kg Jerudong B, jointly organised an Iftar ceremony with orphans at the Royal Berkshire Hall in Jerudong Park and & Polo Country Club.

The Iftar ceremony was organised in conjunction with BGC’s Project Amali, with the aim of strengthening its relationship with the local communities and to inculcate the spirit of benevolence and giving among BGC staff.

A total of 43 orphans and 10 children from Yayasan Kanser Kanak-Kanak (YASKA) graced the event alongside invited guests and BGC staff, to spend some quality time and enjoy the breaking of fast together.

Captain Abdul Mateen expressed in his opening remarks saying, “As Ramadhan is a month of giving, BGC is fortunate to be able to look after the well-being of our stakeholders—like the local community here in Jerudong, the orphans as well as the children of YASKA. We will continue to serve our community with their interests in mind and cater our social investment initiatives to their needs, as part of Project Amali.”

BGC, through its Project Amali, also presented donations to the orphans in the form of “Eidiya”—through its internal donation drive among BGC staff. With Project Amali, BGC aims to inculcate the spirit of benevolence among BGC staff and at the same time align with Project Amali’s objectives to interact and build relationships with the local communities.

Project Amali

In this holy month of Ramadhan, and as part of BGC’s Social Investment initiatives, the company set out to meet with residents from the Labi community in the Belait District, as part of the 9th installment of Project Amali.

The visit to Mukim Labi was led by BGC’s Managing Director, Captain Abdul Mateen Abdurrahman Liew, accompanied by members of the BGC Management Team and volunteers from the company.

Five socioeconomically disadvantaged families residing in Mukim Labi were identified and presented with various food and essential items such as rice, cooking oil, assorted canned foods, cleaning utensils and so forth – all of which were contributions solely made by BGC personnel.

BGC is proud and thankful to JAPEM and the Penghulu of Mukim Labi for the collaboration, and to all BGC personnel who donated to support the Labi community.

Majlis Bertahlil Ceremony at the Royal Mausoleum

Brunei Gas Carriers (BGC) together with the Brunei Shell Joint Venture Companies (BSJV), today held a joint ‘Majlis Bertahlil’ ceremony at the Royal Mausoleum.

The joint activity was held in rememberance of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam’s late parents and son, Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Muhammad Jamalul Alam, Al-Marhumah Duli Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Damit binti Pengiran Bendahara Pengiran Anak Abdul Rahman and Al-Marhum His Royal Highness Prince Haji ‘Abdul ‘Azim.

Present at the event leading the respective companies were Yang Mulia Hj Md Azmi bin Hj Md Hanifah, BSP Deputy Managing Director and Commercial Manager; Yang Mulia Hj Amir Hamzah Pehin Dato Hj Abdul Rahman, Brunei LNG HSE Manager; Yang Mulia Hj Suffian Hj Mohd Daud , BSM Supply and Distribution Manager; and Yang Mulia Pg Nor Hazman bin Pg Hj Abd Hamid, BGC Fleet Manager, along with senior officers and staff of the BSJV companies and BGC.

Cemetery Cleaning at Tanah Perkuburan Islam Kinapahan, Kg Jerudong

Today, BGC commenced its flagship Project Amali social investment initiative for the holy month of Ramadhan, with a cemetery cleaning at Tanah Perkuburan Islam Kinapahan, Kg Jerudong.

Present to lead the activity was Captain Mohatarshah bin Haji Othman, QHSSE Manager, together with members of BGC management and staff. Also present to collaborate with BGC, were the Acting Village Heads of Kampong Jerudong A and B, along with the Village Council representatives.

The cemetery cleaning campaign concluded with the recitation of Tahlil and Doa Arwah.

Celebrating Success of SME Business Partners

BGC Fetes the Achievements of ICV Program

Brunei Gas Carriers (BGC) on Tuesday, 7th March 2023, held an event at its main office in Jerudong to celebrate the success of BGC’s SME Business Partners.

Pg Dianawaty, BGC Contracts and Procurement Manager, in her opening remarks commended the partnership between BGC and its SME Business Partner, CYZ Solutions, in supporting the In-Country Value (ICV) initiative for the production of BGC’s first made-in-Brunei Boilersuits. The partnership is a proud moment for both parties, as it demonstrates that Brunei is capable of producing quality products domestically, thereby spurring local development.

Following last year’s 2nd cycle of BGC’s i-Usahawan Program, BGC is also proud to announce that it has successfully awarded 2 new i-Usahawan Business Partners with a 3-year contract; Eventive Enterprise for Event Management Services, and Queazar Engineering and Construction for Provision of Cleaning Services. BGC hopes that the i-Usahawan programme will continue to serve as an enabler, to support both Business Partners to be highly competitive industry service providers by the end of the programme.

In support of the i-Usahawan program, BGC aims to continue to play its part in driving the growth of the local SMEs, especially in creating opportunities for locals to start/grow their businesses.

BGC Celebrates Its Silver Jubilee

On 9th March 2023, a Thanksgiving Ceremony, Tahlil, and Maghrib and Isyak Mass Prayer were held at Masjid Al-Ameerah Al Hajjah Maryam in Jerudong to mark Brunei Gas Carriers’ (BGC) 25th Anniversary Silver Jubilee celebration, a momentous milestone for the first deepwater shipping company in Brunei Darussalam.

Present to lead the ceremony was BGC Managing Director, Captain Abdul Mateen Abdurrahman Liew.

Also in attendance was Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Pengiran Shamhary bin Pengiran Dato Paduka Hj Mustapha, Minister of Transport and Infocommunications; Senior Government officials; Senior Management of Brunei Shell Joint Venture (BSJV) Companies; and former Managing Directors of BGC.

BGC, as part of its 25th anniversary, also collaborated with Institute Tahfiz Al-Quran for a special Khatam Ceremony involving 25 students, completing the Al-Quran recitation for a total of 25 times. The closing of the recitation was carried out at the mosque, in the presence of two teachers from Tahfiz Al-Quran, accompanied by the Imams.

The significance of the Silver Jubilee is multifold, for it demonstrates how far BGC has come as a shipping company, developing its people, and delivering excellence across its shipping operations. At the center of this journey are all the people that have worked onshore and on the vessels, making sure that BGC continues to operate safely and reliably for 25 years and beyond. BGC is proud and thankful to be able to celebrate its Silver Jubilee with all the staff, for this celebration carries a deeply held meaning for the BGC family.

With the shipping industry becoming more and more challenging each year, BGC remains confident that with the support of everyone in the company, and the efforts being undertaken to propel the company forwards, BGC can continue to prosper and contribute to the Brunei Maritime Industry for many years to come.

BGC Launches ICV Ignite

Launching of BGC’s ICV Ignite Aspires to Spur Growth in the Shipping Ecosystem

ICV Ignite, a new launched In-Country Value (ICV) Development Program, aims to spur growth through capability development in the local Shipping Ecosystem and the maritime industry.

Through ICV Ignite, BGC aspires to support the readiness and competitiveness of our local businesses with knowledge transfer through a series of classroom trainings, networking and forums centered on safety and Industry requirements, to be Industry-ready by end of 2024.

In collaboration with the Industry and Business Ecosystem (IBE), BGC also invited Haji Mohammad Hadillah bin Haji Abdul Manaf, Acting Assistant Director of Industry and Business Ecosystem, Ministry of Finance and Economy Brunei, to share some insights on the Brunei Darussalam Maritime Cluster (BDMC) project updates, and hold fruitful discussions to support Brunei’s economic development.

Ship Chandling/Chandelling was selected as the first scope to be undertaken as part of the BGC ICV Ignite program, for the Shipping Ecosystem. The scope includes the provision of supplies for general stores and food for ships/vessels.

In closing the ICV Ignite event, Pg Dianawaty Pg Matzin, BGC Contracts and Procurement Manager cited a recent Titah from His Majesty during the opening ceremony of the 19th Legislative council session. In His Titah, His Majesty highlighted the vital role of MSME in strengthening the Brunei economy and believes that the local enterprises should take up the opportunity to expand overseas, and create higher value propositions for the nation. She added that as the country is opening the country’s maritime and shipping sector, these are opportunities that business can aspire to align to. With ICV Ignite, BGC hopes to spur interest for collaboration towards knowledge transfer and growth for the Maritime community.

25 Seeds of Gratitude Launch – YASKA

In celebration of BGC’s 25th Anniversary, BGC has launched a special Social Investment initiative called 25 Seeds of Gratitude.

The 25 Seeds of Gratitude is a year-long initiative centered on promoting selfless acts through collaborations with the wider community, in the hopes of creating value for others and fostering closer ties with one another. To mark the launch of the initiative, BGC invited 15 children from Children’s Cancer Foundation (YASKA) to take part in an arts and craft session. Present to welcome our guests from YASKA was BGC’s Managing Director, Captain Abdul Mateen Abdurrahman Liew.

Captain Mateen in his opening remarks expressed his appreciation to YASKA @yaska_brunei and the children for taking the time to support BGC’s 25 Seeds of Gratitude. He underscored BGC’s commitment to foster strong ties with the local communities, especially in the area of education, welfare, and social development. The event was also supported by members of staff, who dedicated their time and effort to work with the children in the arts and craft activities. Kudos to the whole team!

BGC would also like to thank its initiative partner, McDonald’s Brunei @mcdonaldsbrunei, who brought in the McDonald’s mascot to keep all the children entertained and of course, provide delicious treats to all the guests. We look forward to more collaborations in the future.

BGC Marks Significant Milestone with Last ADP50 BGC Cargo Delivery

Brunei Gas Carriers celebrates 50 years of LNG shipping

BGC delegates led by Managing Director, Captain Abdul Mateen, marked the celebration of 50 years of LNG shipping with a series of special courtesy visits to stakeholders in Japan. The momentous 50-year milestone celebrates the longstanding history between Brunei and Japan, and also marks the first voyage of B-Class vessel SS Gadinia (which was later renamed to Bebatik after Brunei Shell Tankers took over) in 1972.

BGC delegates visited four LNG terminals altogether, namely, Sodegaura Terminal, Negishi Terminal, Higashi Ohgishima Terminal and Futtsu Terminal. Courtesy visits were also made to our LNG colleagues at Mitsubishi Corporation Tokyo & Osaka, and shipping agents from Inchcape Shipping Services, and Global Energy.

During each of the visits, BGC feted the longstanding relationship between all parties, specifically in the collaborative commitment in ensuring safe, efficient, and timely delivery of LNG cargoes to the customers. To commemorate the event, BGC presented each Head of Terminal with a special painting of the first Bruneian LNG vessel, SS Bebatik, and the latest Bruneian LNG vessel, MV Amadi.

BGC also took the opportunity to meet with His Excellency Haji Shahbudin bin Haji Musa, Ambassador Extraordinary & Plenipotentiary of Brunei Darussalam to Japan.

Visit From Japanese Buyers and Mitsubishi Corporation

Brunei Gas Carriers received a courtesy visit from Japanese LNG Buyers – JERA, Tokyo Gas and Osaka Gas and representatives from Mitsubishi Corporation earlier today at the BGC HQ in Kg Jerudong. The visit was held post Annual Shipping Review with @bruneilng

Present to welcome BGC’s esteemed guests was Captain Abdul Mateen Abdurrahman Liew, BGC Managing Director. During the visit, Captain Abdul Mateen extended his sincerest appreciation to all the guests for their unwavering support to sustain a close-knit relationship with BGC, especially in the safe and timely delivery of LNG.

The visit concluded with a quick tour of BGC’s Bridge Simulator Training Centre (BSTC) and light refreshments with BGC Management.
